I thought it would be fitting to start the blog for my coaching business on how to handle disappointments in our businesses. And let me just say that it doesn't matter how long we have been in business we all face disappointments.
Twice in one week I was given disappointing news. Two conferences had not selected me to speak in person at their events. And there were valid reasons for both.
Public speaking at conferences is newer to me. So, I understand that it will take a few tries for me to be selected.
And one of the conferences still wanted to do webinars with me. So, while not speaking at their in-person conference was a bummer, they still liked me enough to want to collaborate in the future.
I was upset. I was down. I was having some negative thoughts.
But then I reminded myself, I didn't book the first wedding clients I ever met. It took me a while to book my first high-net-worth couple. It took a while to get on a preferred vendor list at a venue I love.
Sometimes I think we expect things to be instantaneous. And the reality is that the world doesn't work that way. No matter what social media may say to the contrary.
After I had a moment (and it's ok to have ONE moment), I responded to both emails very professionally. I told both that I would love to collaborate in the future and that I would touch base over the summer.
Always remember that what we see on social media is only "the wins". We don't always see the "setbacks or disappointments". Trust me, everyone of us deals with both!
Added to my to-do list. Update my speaking submissions, refine my topics and keep working hard.
Have a great day friends!
Jen
